About Me
I am Roshin Roy. I have a fascination for information technology and I have been feeding it for over a decade now. Presently, I drive business for a company that is into systems integration, IT infrastructure, connectivity solutions, communications etc.
My interest in linux, ldap, apache, samba and squid have helped me work with linux user groups and freelance consultants earlier in the UAE. Though I haven’t given much to the foss community, I’m a member of Indian Linux User Group (ilug) since the inception of its Cochin chapter and an associate with the Free Software Industries Association (fsia). I am working on a few initiatives through these associations that I hope will help the good cause.
I love apple computers and almost anything to do with the brand. I have a passion for good designs that make an impression, be it good architecture, a well designed gadget, great user interfaces or anything that is conceptualized by superior creativity. My admiration for macs and the use of osX is in direct conflict with the idea of ‘Free Software’ as understood and advocated by foss groups… i know.
I wonder if I can be a rebel when social perceptions of mine are questioned. I live in India where I get to socially connect and engage in conversation with people who had walked with M K Gandhi. I disagree with a lot of social taboos that still drives the society that I live in. However, I have not made any attempts to change it.. yet. I hardly ever lose my temper and have reasonably good stress tolerance. I love traveling, do a lot of it, and always have an urge to do more.
I see discipline as a challenge and I enjoy pursuing it. I want to be different and try my best to be so. I believe that style and identity is relative to your character and attitude. I like to be less self-conscious like all normal people but I think usually end up the other way round.
